Privacy Policy

Last updated: 4 August 2026

RecycleBookBD is a secondhand book marketplace where the buyer's money is held by us in escrow until the book arrives. Doing that takes some information about you. This policy sets out exactly what we collect, why, how long we keep it and who else sees it. We do not sell your data, and we do not hand it to advertisers.

01What we collect

Only what it takes to open an account, buy and sell books, and get a delivery to the right place.

1.1 Account details

  • Phone number: Your identity and the key to logging in. One account per number.
  • Full name: So buyers and sellers know who they are dealing with, and so order records make sense.
  • District: To work out delivery cost. The rate differs within a division and across divisions.
  • Address: Optional. If you give it, the seller uses it when shipping.
  • Password: Hashed to industry standard. We never see or store the password itself.

1.2 What you create

  • Book listings: Title, author, subject, condition, price, stock and description.
  • Photos: Book photos you upload are kept in our storage and shown publicly with the listing.
  • Messages: What you write to the other party about an order.
  • Reviews and ratings: The rating you give a seller after the book arrives.

1.3 Transaction records

  • Order details: Which book, at what price, the delivery cost, the commission, the seller's payout, and the time of each step.
  • Payment reference: The transaction ID you give us after sending money by bKash or Nagad. Nothing else.
  • Courier tracking link: The link the seller provides, visible to both the buyer and the seller.

We never ask for and never store your mobile banking PIN, an OTP, your account balance, a card number or your bank login. Anyone requesting those in the name of RecycleBookBD is committing fraud.

1.4 Technical data

Using the site naturally produces device type, browser, IP address and server logs. These are used for security, fixing faults and preventing abuse.

02What we do with it

  • Completing transactions: Creating orders, verifying payments, tracking delivery and releasing the seller's money.
  • Connecting the two sides: Passing messages about an order between buyer and seller, and sending the notices each of them needs.
  • Keeping the platform safe: Detecting fake listings, fraud and abuse, and resolving complaints.
  • Improving the service: Understanding in aggregate which subjects are searched for and where people get stuck.
  • Legal obligations: Keeping accounts and complying with applicable law.

We make no automated decisions about you that carry legal effect. A decision such as suspending an account is always reviewed by a person.

03Who else sees it

Only as much as running a marketplace requires:

  • Buyer and seller, of each other: Once an order is placed the seller sees the name, district and address needed to deliver; the buyer sees the seller's name, district and rating. Neither sees a password or any other order.
  • Courier services: The seller gives the courier the delivery address. The courier's own privacy policy applies there.
  • Technology providers: Our hosting provider processes database, file and application data solely to operate this service on our behalf.
  • Legal requirements: Where a competent authority lawfully requires it, or where someone's safety depends on it.

We do not sell your data, we do not rent it, and we do not pass it to third parties for advertising.

04Escrow and payment data

RecycleBookBD sits between the buyer and the seller and holds the money. The buyer sends it to our bKash or Nagad number and submits the transaction ID, which we then check against our own records.

  • We store only the transaction ID, the amount, the method and the time.
  • Once the buyer confirms the book arrived, the seller's share is released, less commission.
  • If a complaint is raised, the money stays in escrow until it is resolved.

Order and payment records are kept for accounting, audit and any future dispute. They survive the closure of an account.

05How long we keep it

  • Messages: Deleted automatically after 45 days. Save anything you need before then.
  • Order and payment records: Kept for accounting and legal purposes.
  • Listings and photos: Once you delete a listing or take it down, nobody can see it any more.
  • Account: If you ask us to close it, your profile and personal details are removed. Records of completed transactions remain, without identifying you.

06What you control

  • See and correct: Change your name, district and address at any time from profile settings.
  • Password: Change it whenever you like from settings.
  • Remove listings: Take down or delete any of your own books at any time.
  • Close your account: Request it from settings. If an order is still running, it takes effect once that finishes.

For any request or objection about your data, write to support@recyclebookbd.com. We will verify who you are and act as quickly as we can.

07How we protect it

  • Row-level security: Rules are enforced on every row in the database, so a user can only read their own data.
  • Encrypted connections: All traffic to the site is protected with HTTPS.
  • Hashed passwords: A password is never stored as plain text.
  • Limited admin access: Admins see order details only where verifying a payment or resolving a complaint requires it, and every action is logged.

Even so, no system on the internet is entirely without risk. Keeping your password to yourself, and telling us if you see something suspicious, is your part of it.

08Cookies and tracking

We use a session cookie, which is what keeps you logged in. We use no advertising tracking pixels and no third-party ad networks. Clearing cookies in your browser logs you out and does nothing else.

09Children and young people

RecycleBookBD is not for anyone under 13. Those between 13 and 18 may use it under the supervision of a parent or guardian, whose consent is required because money changes hands. If we learn that a child's data has reached us by mistake, we will delete it.

10Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the service changes. Any significant change will be announced on the site and the “last updated” date above will move. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new policy.
